Questions & answers

Everything to know before you drain.

General

How is the Remodel Division related to RL Poolscapes?

The Remodel Division is RL Poolscapes’ dedicated team for pool and deck renovation. Same company, same Florida license, same Design Center and the same standards, focused entirely on bringing existing pools back to life.

Do I need resurfacing or a complete remodel?

If the shell, tile, coping and deck are sound and only the interior is rough, stained or faded, resurfacing is usually enough. If several systems are near the end of their life, or the pool no longer fits the home, a complete remodel is the better investment. Our free on-site assessment tells you which, honestly.

How long does a pool remodel take?

A typical resurfacing takes 1–2 weeks. A complete renovation including deck replacement can take 3–6 weeks depending on scope. You get a calendar before we drain the pool.

How long will my new surface last?

Pebble and quartz finishes typically last 10–20 years. Standard plaster lasts 7–12 years. Proper water chemistry significantly extends finish life.

How much does a pool remodel cost?

It depends on the size of the pool, the finish you choose and how much of the tile, coping, deck and equipment is included. After the free assessment you receive a fully itemized proposal with no hidden costs, so you can see exactly where every dollar goes.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. RL Poolscapes holds a Florida Certified Pool/Spa Contractor license (CPC), full general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and manufacturer certifications including Techo-Bloc Certified Installer.

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes. We pull all required Collier County permits and schedule every inspection for complete code compliance.

Homeowners

Can I see finish samples before deciding?

Yes. Visit our Design Center at 2464 Davis Blvd in Naples, or we can bring the Mobile Showroom to your home with finishes, tile, coping and deck samples. The Finish Studio on this site gives you a first idea of how each finish changes the water.

Do I need to be home during the remodel?

No. Many of our clients are seasonal residents. We need access to the pool area and equipment, and your project lead keeps you informed with weekly updates and photos wherever you are.

HOAs, condos & resorts

Do you work on HOA, condominium and resort pools?

Yes. RL Poolscapes is a licensed residential and commercial pool contractor. Our commercial work includes community pool facilities, resort amenities and HOA common areas, for property managers and boards across Collier County.

How do you keep amenity downtime short?

By planning the work around your property: scheduling in the slower season when possible, sequencing the deck and pool so areas reopen sooner, and committing to a calendar your board can share with residents before work starts.

Can you present to our board?

Yes. We provide itemized proposals with photos of existing conditions and clear options so boards can compare and decide, and we are glad to walk the property or join a meeting to answer questions.

Finishes, tile, decks & equipment

How long will a new finish last?

Plaster typically lasts 7–12 years. Quartz and pebble finishes typically last 10–20 years. Balanced water chemistry is the biggest factor in reaching the top of those ranges.

Can you resurface over my existing finish?

Only when the existing surface is sound and well bonded. In most aging pools we remove the old finish so the new one bonds to a solid base. We confirm it during the on-site assessment.

How soon can we swim?

The pool is filled right after the finish is applied. Swimming usually resumes after the start-up period once the water is balanced, and we walk you through the brushing and chemistry routine for the first weeks.

Can I replace tile without resurfacing the pool?

Yes, but the pool has to be partially drained and the finish near the tile line is usually disturbed. When the interior is near the end of its life, doing both at once saves a second drain and a second mobilization.

Why does coping crack or lift?

Usually from missing or failed expansion joints between the coping and the deck, settling of the deck, or a weakened bond beam. We find the cause first so the new coping stays put.

Travertine or pavers?

Travertine is the cooler, more natural-looking surface and a Naples favorite. Pavers offer more colors and textures and are easy to repair piece by piece. We bring samples of both to your assessment.

Can you install over my existing concrete deck?

Often, yes. If the slab is sound, pavers or travertine can be installed over it with the right setting system, which avoids demolition. We check elevations at doors and coping before recommending it.

Is a variable-speed pump worth it?

For most pools, yes. Running longer at low speed moves the same water with far less energy and noise than a single-speed pump. Federal efficiency rules have also made variable-speed the standard for most replacement pumps.

Can LED lights go in my existing light niches?

In most pools, yes. LED retrofit fixtures are made for standard niches. If the pool is being resurfaced we also replace niche trims so everything matches the new finish.

Is remodeling better than building a new pool?

When the shell is structurally sound and well located, remodeling preserves the most expensive part of the pool and puts the budget into everything you see and touch. If the shell has major structural problems, we will tell you honestly.

Can you change the shape of my pool?

Within limits, yes. Adding a sun shelf, a spa, benches or new steps is common. Larger shape changes depend on the structure, setbacks and permits, which we review during design.
